Biography
I got my first snare drum and hi hat when I was 8. By 14 I knew I needed a full set. Using the money I had earned working at the local gas station and by selling my beloved silver sparkle Slingerland snare, I bought my first used set. My dad packed it into our ’76 Datsun and I was on my way! As a kid I would run home after school and get in as much practice as possible before my parents returned from work. I played in rock bands throughout high school and college, but not until I started working as a recording engineer in NYC did my years of playing begin to pay off. My coworkers at the studio and our clients at MTV formed multiple bands together. We played all the best rock clubs in the city and through those relationships I found myself working full time at MTV’s studios. During my time at MTV I worked as a sound technician on a Meat Puppets documentary being shot on location in Austin, TX and Phoenix. AZ. I made a connection and developed friendships with brothers Curt Kirkwood, songwriter/guitarist and Cris Kirkwood, bassist for the Meat Puppets. During the shoot, they found out that I played the drums and gave me a very informal audition. This was right before the Meat Puppets reformed in 2005. I toured with the band from 2006 to 2010 and played on two studio albums, Rise to Your Knees and Sewn Together. I look back on that time with a loving fondness toward the band and their music. It was a truly an honor to be part of their legacy. Now I’m playing drums in Slyboots with my wife, who is the bass player. Slyboots is a female-fronted melodic rock/new wave band located in New York City. She and I come up with the rhythm parts and it's been really fulfilling to create as a couple. It's something we can do together and helps strengthen our bond outside of the band, too. Best of all, we have a lot of fun!
