Biography
Stu Roberts is a freelance drummer currently touring with Take That’s “The Band”. The show is on an 18 month national tour including a scheduled eight week run at the Haymarket Theatre in the west end. In addition to “The Band” tour, Stu has just completed Kerry Ellis’s 20th Anniversary Tour including performances with guest artists Brian May and Joe McElderry, among others. In promotion for “The Band”, Stu has performed with the cast of “The Band” and Take That and Lulu. Previous theatre chairs include Wonderland (2016-17), The Rocky Horror Show (2015-16), Jersey Boys (2014-15), Monty Python’s Spamalot (West-End 2012-14), Exposure (St James 2016) Love Beyond at Wembley Arena and Britain’s Got Bhangra (2010 and 2011). Theatre deputy work includes Sister Act (UK Tour) with Alexandra Burke, Ghost (Piccadilly), Ghost (UK tour), Joseph (New London), Jersey Boys (Piccadilly), Pajama Game (Shaftesbury), Dirty Dancing (UK tour), Legally Blonde (UK tour), Spamalot (UK tour), Joseph (UK tour). Spamalot in the west end featured Stephen Tompkinson, Joe Pasquale, Les Dennis, Warwick Davies, Jon Culshaw, Marcus Bridgstock, Bonnie Langford, Dick & Dom and Todd Carty. Spamalot guest performers included Brian May, Michael Palin, Christopher Biggins, Larry Lamb, Barbara Windsor, Michael Ball, Hugh Bonneville and Brian Cox. Stu has also performed with Claire Sweeney, Liz McClarnon (Atomic Kitten), Paul Cattermole (S Club 7), Gary Wilmot, Jonathon Anstell (G4), Ben Mills (X Factor), H (Steps). In addition, Stu has played live or recorded for Dame Evelyn Glennie, Bryan Adams, The Dhol Foundation, Talvin Singh, Eric Idle and Michael Palin of Monty Python, Peter Appleyard (5x Grammy award winner), Alex McEwan supporting Katie Melua on her Piece by Piece UK and Ireland Tour (2005). Festival main stage appearances include Glastonbury, Womad Singapore, Womad Australia, Celtic Connections, Electric Picnic, OAMF Trutnov, Commonwealth Games Melbourne, Perc Pan Brazil and many others. TV and radio broadcasts include Womad Australia Live (ABC Network) Children in Need, Keith Lemon’s Livin’ the Vida Loca, This Morning, The One Show, Radio 1 and Radio 2. Stu is an experienced drum tutor and was a lecturer at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) 2003-11 and also the Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) 2012-14. He gave drum master classes at Tokyo School of Music and Seoul Jazz Academy on behalf of the ACM in 2006. Other teaching credits include the Royal Military School of Music. Stu was recently added to Dom Famularo and Modern Drummer Magazine’s recommended list of drum tutors and has written a series of articles in Drummer magazine on behalf of Rockschool. Recently, he has contributed 20 arrangements to the new Rockschool graded syllabus which will launch autumn 2018.
