Biography

Siemy is a London (UK) based drummer, percussionist and composer. His fascination with rhythm shaped his musical education as he journeyed through the roots of jazz, Latin, rock and African music. To broaden his cultural depth and musical knowledge, Siemy studied Western Classical Music and most recently Carnatic rhythm under the guidance of the mridangam maestro M Balachandar. These influences were fused together to create a diverse and unique sound to complement Siemy’s signature 4-way coordination and independence techniques showcased through his masterclasses at Drum Channel and Drumeo and most recently captured in his new book by Hudson Music ‘’Creative Exploration of the Left Foot’’. Fascinated by different art forms, particularly dance and theatre, Siemy composed music for the Royal Court Theatre, London (UK), where he refined his skills and developed a new passion which would soon inspire one of Siemy’s most ambitious creative projects as an artistic director for his new music/dance/theatre production, Prâna-Max Roach. The concept is an original blend of Indian, African and American Jazz rhythms that tells a fictitious story of the legendary jazz drummer Max Roach embarking on a journey to discover the origin of rhythm and drum. To create this rich musical and theatrical experience, Siemy collaborated with a range of dance companies and musicians and used his influence of Carnatic rhythms to bring everything together for a cultural plethora of sounds and stories from across the world. Siemy is no stranger on stage and has performed with the likes of Roy Ayers, David Bowie, Mofro, S Club 7, Jimmy Somerville, Zucchero and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice/Spice Girls). He was invited to join the infamous African Jazz All-Stars and Master Drummers of Africa which gave him exposure to some of Africa’s most beloved talent which cemented his name amongst the greats. If Siemy had one message for the up-and-coming musicians of today, it would be to keep rhythmically open-minded and never stop exploring, sharing and immersing oneself in the many beautiful cultures from around the world.
