Biography

Scott Rockenfield is a 5x Grammy Award Nominated American drummer, composer, and sound designer, best known as an original former founding member of the multi-platinum progressive metal band Queensrÿche for over 40 years. Born on June 15, 1963, in Seattle, Washington, Rockenfield began playing drums at an early age and co-founded Queensrÿche in 1982. His powerful, intricate drumming quickly became a defining element of the band’s sound. With Queensrÿche, Rockenfield rose to prominence in the 1980s and '90s, particularly through acclaimed albums like Operation: Mindcrime (1988) and Empire (1990). His precise rhythms and creative arrangements helped shape the band’s sophisticated, theatrical metal style. He also contributed to the band’s songwriting and was involved in the visual and conceptual aspects of their work. Outside of Queensrÿche, Rockenfield continues to be actively involved in numerous creative ventures such as composing music for music for film trailers, films, video games, and commercials, showcasing his incredible versatility beyond rock and metal. He has released several projects such as the Grammy Award Nominated TeleVoid (1998), an instrumental solo album blending cinematic and electronic influences and also formed the chart topping industrial rock project Slave to the System with members of Brother Cane and Queensrÿche. He remains a highly respected figure in progressive and heavy metal circles. Known for his precision, innovation, and visual flair, Scott Rockenfield’s contributions have left a lasting mark on modern rock drumming and cinematic music production for over 45 years.
