Biography

Rafael Dolinski started playing drums after watching his father, José Roberto Martins Macedo (Baxinho), playing drums and percussion with Novos Baianos in 1997. Rafael learned to play the drums by listening to his favorite drummers and bands: Michael Jackson/The Jacksons, Little Richard, Queen, The Who, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Novos Baianos, Pepeu Gomes, Santana, Rush, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, The Tubes, and video game music. His father and the Brazilian drummer Lauro Lellis helped Rafael to develop technique on the drums. They introduced him to some new bands and musicians: Chick Corea, Steps Ahead, Weather Report, Casiopea, Vinnie Colaiuta, Gregg Bissonette, Simon Phillips, Dave Weckl, Terry Bozzio, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Buddy Rich, and his dad's favorite drummer, Dennis Chambers. Another great influence on Rafael's playing is the Brazilian drummer Jorginho Gomes. Rafael has played/recorded with Quebra-Cabeça, Pepeu Gomes, Baby do Brasil, Luis Melodia, Galvão (Novos Baianos), Luiz Carlini, Willy K, Luciano Nassyn, ULM Big Band, Alexandre Gonçalves, Ananda and many freelance projects.
