Biography
Paul Brochu, widely acclaimed as one of Canada’s top drummers, started playing drums at the age of 7. By the time he was 13, Paul was taking private lessons with Roger Juneau. Shortly after graduating from the Conservatory with a Master’s degree in percussion, Paul joined Montreal based Jazz-Fusion group UZEB. Between tours and the recording of UZEB albums, Mr. Brochu maintained a busy schedule. As a sought after session player his artfull playing contributed to an impressive number of jingles, albums, television shows, radio broadcasts and film soundtracks. He has lent his drumming and musical skills to a who’s who of Canadian and French Artists (Michel Legrand, Charles Aznavour, Céline Dion, Gregory Charles) and he has performed with such jazz notables (Frank Gambale, Don Alias, Tiger Okoshi, Bela Fleck, Eddie Daniels, Oliver Jones, Gino Vannelli). Although consistently busy on the performing front, he manages to find the time to share his musical knowledge with students at University of Montreal and he is also doing a TV Show “En Direct de l’Univers” Throught his 12 years tenure in Uzeb, Paul recorded the following albums: Live in Bracknell Fast Emotion You Be Easy Between The Lines Live à L’Olympia Absolutely Live (with Didier Lockwood) Noisy Nights Live in Europe Uzeb Club World Tour 90 Honors: 1983: Jazz Album of the Year, ADISQ. 1984: Group of the Year and Jazz Album of the Year, ADISQ 1986: Jazz Album of the Year, ADISQ. 1987: Jazz Album of the Year, ADISQ. 1989: Group of the Year, ADISQ.
