Biography

Melanie Krahmer is the lead singer and drummer for the NY-based indie-pop/rock band, SIRSY. She co-writes the songs with her bandmate and husband, Rich Libutti (guitar, bass). Melanie also plays keys and throws in a few mean flute solos, too. At live shows, Melanie plays a full drum kit while standing up. She also plays bass on a Roland midi unit that she’s mounted on the kit. It’s set up like a piano that she plays with her drumstick. (In the studio, Mel plays a more traditional set up and sits down.) Despite all her onstage musical multi-tasking, Mel always performs with a giant smile on her face. As a two-time cancer survivor, she says she has a lot to smile about. “Making music with Rich for our fans saves my life every day. It’s truly a labor of love”. SIRSY’s songs have been featured on Showtime’s tv show “Shameless”. They tour all over the US and Canada, playing 250+ shows per year, spreading love and smiles as they go. “Sirsy’s lead singer/drummer/bass player was stunning. With a great voice and an even better smile, the drummer is the center of attention, as she should be. Singing and playing drums has always been an impressive task. Now throw in the bass tracks and work that AT THE SAME TIME…DAMN!” — William Tompkins, SXSW Music Blog (Austin TX)
