Biography
Marcy Kimanzi is a female drummer & percussionist from Kenya. She has worked with Esther Wahome, a Kenyan gospel artist, Mufasa the Poet, Motra Music which is an all-female percussion group and the Great African Caravan collaboration which had artists from different parts of the world came together to create music in 2019. Marcy was the first African to win an award at the Hit Like a Girl Contest in 2021 under the Tom Tom/Paiste category. She is currently working as a business admin while doing part-time drum private lessons and still an independent drummer for gigs and recordings. She is a self-taught drum theory intermediate with some help from her friend Jesse Otieno. With this knowledge, she created a blog that talks about the history of Kenyan music from the perspective of a drummer and transcribes it into sheet music. Marcy is the founder of AFEDAPE (African FEmale Drummers And PErcussionists) which is a community that seeks to inspire and empower African young girls and even older women to step into traditionally limited platforms for women in music especially. Her ultimate goal is to impact lives through her faith and drumming.
