Biography
Marcel started playing the drums in 1981 at the age of seven. Since 1988, he has played in a large number of bands of different styles, which is reflected in the many influences that characterize his way of playing. An academic course at the Conservatory Enschede (Netherlands) gave him the opportunity to further develop his style of playing towards a higher musical and technical level. The last years have seen him publish several popular drum books . He also writes for the German drum magazine `Drumheads´. Marcel works as a drum lecturer at the Westphalian Music School in Muenster-Germany and also as a private teacher. He has been involved in the drumming scene since 2006 and also plays clinics and workshops. He has participated in many drum festivals and music fairs alongside such names as Aaron Spears, Chris Coleman, Horacio Hernandez, Dom Famularo, Benny Greb, Carmine Appice, Carl Palmer, Alan White, Will Calhoun, The Drumbassadors, George Kollias and many more. In 2007 he was added to the list of the top 500 drummers (worldwide) with his own artist page and a detailed presentation on the drummerworld.com website. His solo records, solo live performances, and drum book releases have received positive reviews worldwide. In 2008 and 2018, Marcel was honored with the German Rock and Pop Award in the category `best drummer´ as well as in 2012 and 2015 in the category `best instrumental soloist´. Marcel is the drummer and founding member of the German post rock band, Suntrigger.
