Born in Ohio to a pair of hard-working music enthusiasts, Kristen grew up listening to Al Green, the Rat Pack and 70s funk. She fell in love with the drums after seeing Billy Cobham in concert when she was nine and hasnt stopped playing since. After attending DePaul University’s School of Music and Berklee College of Music, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Performance and moved to Los Angeles. She has had the pleasure of studying under drumset masters John “JR” Robinson, Aaron Sterling, Kenny Aronoff, John Blackwell, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kim Plainfield, Jamey Haddad, Bill Ransom, Steve Wilkes, Dave DiCenso, and more. She has studied Japanese taiko drumming under master Eitetsu Hayashi, Brazilian percussion under Marcus Santos (with whom she performed at the 2008 PASIC convention) and West African drumming under Joe Galeota (with whom she performed at the opening ceremony of the 2008 PASIC convention and traveled to Ghana to study Ewe drumming and dancing under Emmanuel Agbeli in the Ewe region of southwestern Ghana). She has recently toured with roots-rock singer Julie Neumark and soul-pop songstress Hope Waits and is currently busy collaborating with numerous different projects, songwriters, and producers on both drumset and percussion. She also currently teaches, works at online music marketing company Topspin Media, is endorsed by Paiste Cymbals, and writes for Tom Tom, a female drumming magazine. She is known for her impeccable time, feel-good pocket, powerful yet tasteful touch, stylistic versatility, and bright personality.
Sound character: Dark, dry, woody. Fairly wide range, complex mix. Soft, responsive feel. Full, warm, open sound. Loose, soggy chick sound. Perfectly suited for traditional swing patterns, but also well usable for other acoustic styles like Blues, Country, Soul or Gospel.

Sound character: Dark body, full frequency spectrum, brilliant highs. Very wide range, complex, pleasing musical mix. Immediate, sensitive response, strong attack, controllable spread, even, layered fade. This crash combines silky, soft qualities with energy and projection for an incredibly versatile application range. Also extremely well suited as suspended cymbals and for mallet rolls.

Sound character: Dark, trashy, papery, low. Wide range, complex and moody mix. Soft and buttery feel with a very wobbly and vibrant response. Fairly defined stick sound over a dark and cloudy wash. Perfectly suited for quieter musical settings such as blues, jazz and acoustic styles. Very user-friendly for percussive use and classical mallet application.
