Biography
Born 19/02/2001, Kevin Dhima, drummer of Aussie rock band Mixed Up Everything, started drumming at the age of 3 on his mum’s cushions trying to emulate the sounds of his favourite artists, The Offspring, Scorpions, Metallica with his 3 brothers, coming up with the 'Mixed Up Everything' name at about the age of 5. At age 7 he got his first electric drum kit (Yamaha DTXplorer) and started taking things a little more seriously with drum lessons and crazy hours of practise until fingers literally bled from blisters. Kevin's ambitions to be in a world class rock band were strong even back then. As Kevin and the band progressed in their skills and understanding for the Rock world, they took things up a notch where they hit the streets of Melbourne, busking 90's classics and gathering crowds.. well... far bigger than any of the other buskers ;) Kevin played buckets on the streets for a couple of years, before hitting the Melbourne pub scene, where the band started to make a name for themselves. At age 12, Kevin entered the 'No Doubt Push And Shove Drum Contest', where drummers from around the globe submit their best drum cover of No Doubt's song 'Push and Shove'. Kevin didn't win that, but came in at Runner Up, where the decision between Kevin and 1st place was "literally the toss of a coin" says Adrian Young (Drummer for No Doubt) The winner got a OCDP drum kit, and Kevin was granted a snare skin signed by the whole band. Kevin has received many appraisals for his drumming efforts from the likes of Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses), Mikkey Dee (Motorhead, Scorpions) and Adrian Young. Mainly influenced by Dave Grohl, Chad Smith, Dave Abbruzzese, James Kottak and Chris Coleman, Kevin’s heavy-handed style gives a solid and powerful groove, tight enough to be the driving force behind Mixed Up Everything's sound. Known for his erratic, crazy-energy, eye catching drum performances, he is often compared to the likes of Grohl, Steven Adler (mostly due to the beach blonde curly hair style), and yep you guessed it, Animal from the Muppets. Though Kevin likes to thrash it out hard back there, he also manifests a great deal of finesse and precision to his playing with an undeniable sense of natural feel and groove. He has it all really. When asked about the rock scene of today, Kevin said "I think today's drum sounds have become very stale and uninspired. So much personality has been lost in the drums you hear in today’s music and it’s a real shame for the industry. It was the roomy large drum sounds of the 70s-90s that drove the song and made you move! I think so much of a songs essence and emotion is in the drum sound and the character of the snare in particular. I am most certainly striving to bring back this lost beauty in drums and music itself!" Kevin aspires to one day make it up there with the greatest drumming legends of all time and bring hard-hitting rock music back to the mainstream with his band Mixed Up Everything.
