Biography

Mexican drummer, percussionist and vocalist based in New York, graduated Summa Cum Laude in Berklee College of music. Her musical work is characterized by a diversity of rhythms and styles, combining the roots of various Latin/South American traditions with elements of Jazz, Fusion and Pop. Karina has been member of several projects around the globe, having performed at more than twenty countries at big audience international festivals and renown venues such as Birdland Jazz Club, Jazz Standard and Lincoln Center in New York, John F Kennedy Center in Washington DC , Water Festival in India, International Circuit in Bahrain the Middle East , WOMAD in UK, “Virada Cultural” in Brazil, Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada, Tales Jazz Festival in Egypt “New Morning” in Paris to name a few...Karina has also shared stage and collaborated with acclaimed pop artist Talia, Esperanza Spalding and Latin Grammy Award winner Paquito D Rivera, Mariachi Flor de Toloache (Latin Grammy 2017) and actor /singer songwriter Ruben Blades. As a music educator, Karina has been drum faculty at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in Chennai, India for more than two years and has given several workshops at many colleges and universities within the USA including "The Latin Culture Week" at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Central Washington University as well as many music institutions in her country Mexico. Karina’s work is portrayed in more than 20 albums including “Canibalismo” Chicha libre, “Mango”Alex Alvear "Quiero" by Coco Mama, Mariachi Flor de Toloache (nominated for best Latin Album 2015) and Gregorio Uribe Big Band. Very user-friendly for percussive use and classical mallet application.
