Biography

João Barone is the founding member of Os Paralamas do Sucesso (1982), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Barone is considered one of the most influential Brazilian rock drummers, opening the gates to a new local drum scene with his rock-reggae-Afro-Brazilian mesh of styles, with 20 albums, a never-ending schedule of concerts and several extra-band work including both recordings and shows. After recording a pioneering drum video, in 1997, Barone started to clinic off and on. In 2010 is released his signed model snare drum by Tama, after long lasting partnership. The year 2023 marks Barone’s fortieth year on the road with Os Paralamas - and almost 30 years officially with Paiste, a date to celebrate with crowded arenas and huge audiences in Brazil. Several Paralamas albums are being rereleased on special vinyl issues and on streaming platforms. Barone is taking the chance to do several master classes and is back with the long awaited project Call The Police, playing with rock-icon-guitarist Andy Summers in sold out shows around South America. All this feedback indicates that Os Paralamas are renewing their breath with Barone keeping the beat for many more years on road… along with Paiste!
