Biography
Jay Majernik is a professional freelance percussionist based in Dallas, TX. A consummate performer, he plays in virtually every musical genre imaginable. Orchestras in which he currently performs include the Plano Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic, and the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving as well as other local orchestras. He also performs with local theatre companies such as Stage West in Ft. Worth, Theatre Arlington, Coppell Community Theatre, and numerous other professional, community, collegiate, and high school productions. Recently he has performed with the Bob Snook Jazz Trio in Ft. Worth and subbed with the Singapore Slingers jazzband. Jay played the debut show of Daniel Rodriguez’s new album “Unstoppable”, a tour de force of instrumental rock guitar. As an educator, Jay is in demand in both classroom and private lesson settings. He is at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Arts Magnet HS) in Dallas where he accompanies modern dance classes on hand drums and teaches the classical and Latin percussion classes. Jay also teaches at Bishop Lynch Catholic High School in Dallas. He instructs their state championship winning drumline. He also runs the percussion ensemble which regularly wins at the region level and advances to the state level. He is also a private lesson instructor at John Horn High School in Mesquite. Many of his former students are playing and teaching professionally or are in music programs in colleges and universities across the country. Jay is married to Laura Leigh and they have 2 sons, John and Noah. They enjoy church activities, watching sports and Christopher Guest movies, gardening, and cooking.
