Born and raised in Hannover, Germany, Jan started drumming at the age of 12. His first musical influences were Nirvana and The Beatles, which formed the base for his powerful, yet always song oriented playing. He was soon recognized by the local music scene and joined the rockband “Mellow Sirens” for their national debut. At the age of 19 he was already touring Germany, playing high-profile events like "Rock am Ring" and "Hurricane" festival. In 2000 he moved to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to study drums at the Conservatoire of Rotterdam. Over the last 20 years Jan has worked with many national and international artists such as Austin, Texas based Patricia Vonne an David Grissom (John Mellencamp, The Allman Brothers Band, The Dixie Chicks) playing hundreds of shows all over Europe including the famous “Montreux Jazz Festival” in Switzerland. Since 2014, Jan is the rhythm for young and promising Americana artist Judy Blank, who in 2019 was the first Dutch artist to plays Americana Fest in Nashville. To honor his 90’s rock roots, he and three close friends started the Dutch rockband 22Below, who got picked up by Mike Muir after supporting Suicidal Tendencies live in France in 2017. In the first half of 2020 22Below will release their first single on Mike Muir’s Suicidal Records. Besides his work as an independent drummer, Jan build his own recording studio “Okapi Recordings” in 2018, gaining a good reputation as a producer. Not only is his studio the perfect environment for him to be creative, record drums and make records with other artists and bands, it also provides the perfect balance between studio work and being on the road.

Sound character: Deep, dark, rich, brilliant, warm. Wide range, fairly complex mix. Even, balanced, very responsive feel. Pearly, wooden ping over a wide, deep, full wash. Big, swelling crash sound. Strong, articulate embedded bell. An ultimate classic sound, developed in 1967 during one of popular music's most revolutionary eras.

Sound character: Dark, soft, warm, deep. Medium wide range, complex mix. Buttery feel, very responsive. Fine stick sound with hints of silver and wood over a broad, low-pitched warm, deep, multilayered wash. Wide, warm, full crash sound. Very lively, controllable. Multifunctional cymbal for refined ride playing and swelling, deep crashes. Also well suited for mallet playing mallets.

Sound character: Dark, warm, smoky. Medium wide range, complex mix. Buttery, soft feel with quick response. Rich, dark, mystical crash sound with tender clarity. Extremely lively cymbal for broad accents and crashes in intimate to semi-loud settings.
