Biography
Originaly from Morelia Mexico, and from a family of musicians, FERNANDO MENDOZA started playing drums at the age of four. At nine years old, he started studying classic piano and theory in the “Escuela Popular de Bellas Artes” and continued those studies at “El Conservatorio de las Rosas” in Morelia Mexico for eight years. At the age of eleven he started studying drums formaly and decided to take music seriously thanks to his parents and their introduction to Jazz music. Mainly being self-taught, he has taken some private lessons with some of the greatest drummers like Alex Acuna, Walfredo Reyes Jr, Antonio Sanchez and Dave Weckl. Fernando started playing professionaly at 14, and he’s been playing in a lot of diferent proyects from Jazz, Fusion, Latin, Funk, Rock, Pop to traditional Mexican music in Mexico and the U.S. Currently playing with EUGENIA LEON (www.eugenialeon.com) one of the best singers in Mexico, Susana Zabaleta, and also working as a Musical Director for “Las tres grandes”. Fernando has played with: Phil Grenadier, Lincoln Goines, Sandro Albert, Kattisse Buckingham, Luis Conte, Donnie Beck, Larry Steen, Queen Johnson, Christian Mendoza, Steve Monreal, Hector Infanzón, Roberto Vizcaino, Gabriel Hernandez, Miguel Villicaña, Enrique Nery, Cris Lobo, Francisco Lelo de Larrea, Rey David Alejandre, Lila Downs, María León, Cecilia Toussaint, Ely Guerra, Natalia Lafourcade, Armando Manzanero, Francisco Céspedes, Reily and Nelson Rangel just to name a few.
