Biography

If you ask my Mom she would say it was clear I was going to be a drummer, she was forever telling me to stop jigging and tapping, I still can’t sit still now. My grandad was a drummer in bands for over 30 years and he also owned a music shop in Walsall so I suppose you could say music and drumming was in my genes. Initially I’d wanted to be a guitarist. At 7 years old I moved to a new primary school and soon became friends with a lad called Ricky Hodgkiss (bass player in Jayler), he was having guitar lessons and I decided that I wanted to play guitar too so for the next 9 years I had lessons every week and during that time managed to collect 13 guitars. I also dabbled with playing the piano and was given a second hand electric drum kit to add to the mix. At high school everyone in my music class just played guitar so I voluteered to play the drums in all the shows and school performances. I did however get to play the character Zac in ‘The School of Rock’ but that was the only time I played the guitar in front of an audience. My first day at Lichfield College I walked through the doors with a guitar on my back and soon discovered that once again out of the 40 kids on my music course only 3 of us played drums so it I think it was a given that for the next 2 years I would be primarily playing drums. It was here that I became friends with another student James Bartholomew and a friend of his who joined the college a few months into the course named Tyler Arrowsmith. They’d recently met at an open mic and had teamed up as a rock duo and were calling themselves Jayler (a combination of James/Tyler). They wanted to expand the band and asked if I would be interested in being their drummer so after a few tryout sessions I agreed and now 3 years on I think we could safely say I am officially a drummer!
