Biography
Not knowing, what a drum kit was, David Pätsch discovered his passion for drumming at a very young age, hitting his mother’s pots and pans in the kitchen. Soon after that, (in the 1st grade), David had the opportunity to fill the vacant position of the timpanist in a school performance but his most crucial experience occurred at his father’s apartment, who shared his flat with other musicians. At the age of 10, David stood in front of Herwig Mitteregger’s (Nina Hagen Band, Spliff) drum kit that was set up in the living room. At the very moment David decided that he wanted to become a drummer. His grandmother supported this decision and bought him his first Paiste cymbal (RUDE) on his 11th birthday. David pursued his intention by visiting a music school and joining the “Landesjugend Bigband Berlin”, and later studying drums, Jazz/Pop and musical education at “Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler” in Berlin. To put himself through college, he taught drums at the music school “Mitte” in Berlin and played with his band Western Union and several cover bands and Jazz projects. After graduating Pätsch joined German Folk-Metal band Subway To Sally and performed with them in more than 1,000 international shows, recording 5 CDs and a DVD. In 2006 David Pätsch became member of the Blue Man Group not only as a drummer and percussionist, but also as a trainer. His own drum trio, called Playmobeat, is enriching various drum festivals. Since 2010 David has been the drummer for German Romantic Metal band Letzte Instanz. To learn David’s approach of drumming have a look at his tutorial book “Drum Action – New Rock Grooves”, which was released by PPV Medien in 2006.
