Biography
Canadian born and raised Dave Morello has made New Zealand his home. In late 80s Morello attended Vancouver’s prestigeous Capilano Music College. There he was tutored by some of Canada’s top session musicians, teaching him the valuable skills that have set him up well. At Capilano, Morello, a formed The Running. Together they produced an album that yielded awards and a top twenty single in the Canadian charts. While still in Vancouver he was also employed as Musical Director of a government funded programme called CANSTAR for the development of young musicians. In 1997 Morello immigrated to New Zealand with his family. Since moving to New Zealand Morello has pursued his passion for music and has recorded, performed with, produced, arranged and written songs with fellow musicians and bands. He is a Grammy Nominated songwriter and performer (2016) with songs hitting top 30 in USA Rock Charts and top 10 in the UK Independent Charts. Morello has worked as a session drummer for award winning acts such as Moana and The Moa Hunters, Tim Mahon (Blam Blam Blam) and the The Topp Twins which won top music awards, reaching number one in two countries. He also Produced recordings for several local artists and is very active in the NZ music scene sponsoring musical competitions and events through his company Rock You Mental. To complement his passion for Paiste (Official Artist since 2008) Morello is also proudly endorsed by Tama Drums and a loyal artist and representative for Paiste and Tama Agent Musicworks NZ.
