Biography

Ramón Oliveras is a drummer and composer from Zurich. He graduated in 2014 with a Master of Arts in jazz drumming and in 2020 with a Master of arts in contemporary composition at the Zurich University of the Arts. He focuses on his contemporary groove jazz quintet IKARUS, with whom he has released three albums on Nik Bärtsch’s boutique-label Ronin Rhythm Records, is included in the priority program of the Swiss artist council Pro Helvetia since 2020, and is touring Europe and Japan regularly. His duo JPTR, reduced to drums and vocals, released their first album in 2017 and performed at prestigious Swiss festivals such as the M4Music, Schaffhausen Jazz Festival and Lethargy Zurich. Ramón is part of the trio DALAI PUMA, founded in 2019, which celebrates queerness, Dadaism and pop with weird indie rock. He is also an author of the future audio play Weissverschiebung (together with Tobias Pfister and Noah Punkt), composes and plays music for contemporary dance productions, is supporting the Verein auf Utopieverdacht and is the PR strategist for the label Ronin Rhythm Records.     Sound character: Dark, warm, smoky, breathy. Fairly wide range, complex mix. Soft feel with a quick response. Very well crashable. Controllable, peppery stick sound over a dark layered oriental, smoky wash. A ride cymbal that can easily be used in a small jazz club setting and flourish in other styles such as blues or country music.

Fairly defined stick sound over a dark and cloudy wash. Perfectly suited for quieter musical settings such as blues, jazz and acoustic styles. Very user-friendly for percussive use and classical mallet application.
