Biography

Phil Sokha started taking music lessons at the age of 6 years on violin and drums. For a number of reasons, Phil stopped violin lessons years later and focused on drums. Inspired at a young age by prog metal bands Death and Cynic, he formed with his friends first band “X-Systems” (instrumental prog-death). In the late 90s an important event happened in Phil’s music life. He started listening to the music of great prog rock and fusion masters like Frank Zappa, Allan Holdsworth, Chick Corea & Virgil Donati, which made a huge impact on Phil’s music style. In 2002-2003 Phil served in a military orchestra, where he gained wide experience of playing in a big band. After military service, he accepted an invitation from rock group “Li. Der”, which made 3 albums with Phil on drums. At the same time, he continued drumming in X-Systems, which already changed their style from prog metal to fusion rock. After moving to Moscow, Phil began cooperation with legendary Russian prog rockers, Kostarev Group. With this band, Phil recorded a single for the Eddie Jobson compilation (UK). Phil was also working with Pushking Community band as a drummer and recorded 3 studio albums with them: “One Shot Deal” (2015), “Never Give Up or Die…MF” (2016), and & “Flame of the rising soul” (2018). Phil has taken private lessons with legendary drum masters such as Virgil Donati, Dennis Chambers, Morgan Agren, Damien Shmitt and others. At the same time, he took part in the film “Rock & Road” together with Udo Dirkschneider, Ken Hensley and Dan McCafferty. Phil is also a member of a large variety of ensembles, music records for studio, radio and television. At the moment he is a band member of Pushking Community band (Rock) & CosMoS band (progressive rock).
