Biography

Paul Marchetti was born in Englewood, New Jersey in the New York Metropolitan area, in 1951. In the 60's and 70's he studied drums and percussion in the New York area with Carl Wolf, Sonny Igoe, Charlie Persip, Freddie Waits, Micheal Carvin, and Rubens Bassini. Emil Richards has been a mentor and teacher and he also studied with Joe Porcaro. In 1973 and 74 Paul toured and recorded with Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul, and Mary. While working with Peter ,Paul had the pleasure of performing with Odetta, Noel Stooky, Paul Butterfield, The Dixie Humingbirds, and Toots and the Matals. During this time Paul appeared on such T.V. shows as the Tonight Show, the Merv Griffin Show the Mike Douglas Show, Midnight Special, In Concert with Dick Clark, and many local shows in various cities. In addition he also did live radio concerts, large concert halls, and colleges. In 1976 Paul recorded with Brazilian musician, composer, arranger, and producer, Eumir Deodato, and also worked with Brazilian percussionist Rubens Bassini. During this period he worked with producer Stephan Galfas, on a number of different projects. In 1977 he recorded the rock opera " Intergalactic Touring Band ", a project for Passport records. Also along with "Meatloaf", "Status Quo", "Arthur Brown", "Percy Jones”, and “Ben E King”. During this period Paul was also recording jingles and soundtracks. In 1978 Paul worked with vocalist Martha Velez and recorded the album "American Heratbeat", for Sire Records. Later that year he toured Japan with Japanese rock star Joe Yamanaka, recorded the album " Joe Yamanaka Live At Nippon Budokan", for Atlantic Records. In 1979 he worked and recorded with the rock band "Scance Brothers Band," and producer David Scance. In 1980 Paul moved to Maui, Hawaii to work with the jazz group 'Main Course", featuring Brian Cuomo on keyboards, and Bob Harrison on bass. He found Maui to be very comfortable with a constant flow of great musicians coming through. Paul worked with keyboardist Dr. Lonnie Smith, whose good friend and island resident George Benson would come and perform with the band.. In 1982 Paul became the house drummer at " Blackie's Jazz Bar ". Over the years on Maui he has had the pleasure of performing and recording with many prominent artists such as Emil Richards, George Benson, Joe Porcaro, Walter Becker of Steely Dan , Jon Hendricks, Willie Nelson, Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers, Michael Mcdonold, Hutch Hutchinson, Tom Scott, Jackie Ryan, Alan Zavod, Pete Condoli, Gabe Baltazar, Bud Shank, Bill Perkins, Bill Evans, Gary Herbic, Richie Cole, Micky Rooney, Donald O'Conner, Michael Bublee, Michael Brecker, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Eldar Djangirov, Lew Soloff, Joe Caro, Michael Powers, Charlie Musclewhite, Mick Fleetwood, Delfayo Marsalis, Les MaCan, Jimmy Borges, Ricky Peterson, Howard Roberts, Rick Vito, Van Manakas, Steve Kindler, Baba Olatunji, The Nelson Riddle big band, the Maui Symphony, John Beasly, Johnny Rivers, the Shirells, and Bowser of Sha na na. In 1981 Paul was working with trumpeter Joe Burnett who booked Paul to play a concert with Emil Richards. Paul and Emil became good friends and Emil became a mentor to him. Paul had the pleasure of performing , recording, traveling and studying with Emil until his death in 2019. He was a major influence in Paul’s musical life and personal life. Paul has also performed and recorded with many Hawaiian artists such as Willie K, Maurice Bega, Henry Kapono, Henry Allen, Eric Gilliam, Danny Couch, Buddy Fo, Amy Gilliam, Gail Swanson, Lono, Sam Ahia , Howard Ahia, and Rodney Arias. In 1992 Paul brought his wife Kathleen and son Claudio to Eurpoe to work and live in Italy, Switzerland, and Germany for 6 months. During this time he worked with Emil Richards, The Frieburg Jazz Orchestra, bassist Bernd Hietzler, vocalist Cicile Verny and percusstionist Danial Moreno. In 1993 Paul recorded with Water Becker of Steely Dan, on a soundtrack for the animated film " Mose the Fireman". Walter wrote the music in collaboration with keyboardist John Beasly. Walter produced the music. Over the years Paul has worked with Walter and legendary engineer Roger Nichols on various projects that he has produced, doing sampling and as drum tech for his solo recording and Donald Fagan's solo recording. For the last 15 years Paul has been working and continues to work as Mick Fleetwood’s drum tech and goes on the road with The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, playing percussion and drums. He also works with Fleetwood’s House of Rumors band. He also has the pleasure of playing double drumming with Mick, along with such artists as Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Steven Tyler, Dave Mason and others. Paul has also recorded and performed with New Age artists Bruce Becvar, Scott Cossu, Daniel Paul, Donna Delory, and celtic music with AnRel and the Celtic Tigers. In 1994 Paul moved back to the New York area and worked with `jazz guitarist Van Manakas, blues guitarist Todd Wolfe , and the reggae band No Disipline. In 1997 Paul moved to Colorado where he called home for 31/2 years and taught privatly and worked with jazz artists John Zangrando, Mary Ann Moore, Bob Montgomry, Ellen Rucker, Mark Diamond, Paul Warburton, R&B artists Lionel Young, Hazel Miller, David Booker, Crieghten Holly , the Denver Center for Performing Arts production of " Red Hot Mama", Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble and E Town the Public Radio show out of Boulder with special guest artists such as David Alvin formerly of the Blasters. In September of 2000 Paul moved his family back to Maui where he continues to perform and record with Maui's finest, such as Kelly Covington,Fulton Tashombe, Shiro Mori, Bob Harrison, Brian Cuomo, Phil and Angela Benoit. He has been the house drummer for the Maui Jazz and Blues festival for 7 years, performing with Larry Coryel, Fareed Hauge, Donald Harrison, Joe Lewis Walker, Delfayo Marsalis, Eric Merienthal He also works with great players who come to Maui, such as Eldar Djangirov, Emil Richards, Tom Scott, Delfaeyo Marsalis, Jevon Jackson, Les Macan, David Benoit, Gregg Karakas, Eric McFadden, Capathia, Halie Loren, Rick Veto and Van Manakas. In addition he has worked on various `productions such as " Phantom "at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, and broadway artists with the Maui Pops Orchestra. He also works with composer, pianist Robert Pollock, the creative leader of Ebb and Flow Arts, an organization dedicated to the presentation of Art, for enjoyment and education. He is teaching and donating time to music education, and bringing music into the elementary, middle and high schools. He is also teaching privately. Paul has performed in many of the 50 states,and on 5 continents, Italy, Switzerland, France, Monte Carlo, Germany, Spain, Bali, Thailand, Maylasia, Morroco, Singapore, Australia, Japan, the Virgin Islands, St. Martin, St. Barts, Antigua, Martinique, Barbados and Canada.
