Biography
Matthias Knorr entdeckte bereits im Alter von 3 Jahren seine Leidenschaft, das Schlagzeugspielen. Zwei Jahre später bekam er seinen ersten professionellen Schlagzeugunterricht. Bei Marc Küsters in Kleve lernte er verschiedenste Musikstile und Techniken kennen und entwickelte ein vielseitiges Repertoire am Drumset. 2006 begann Matthias sein Drums- & Percussion-Studium bei René Creemers, Joop van Erven & André Groen am Konservatorium in Arnhem (NL). Bis dahin hatte er schon in verschiedenen Jazz- und Pop-Formationen gespielt – unter anderem im „Jugend Jazz Orchester NRW“, mit dem er zwischen 2006 und 2010 durch die Welt reiste (Estland, Südost-Asien, Israel, Malta und China). 2010 beendete er als jüngster Absolvent (im Alter von nur 20 Jahren) sein Studium und fing an, als professioneller Musiker und Schlagzeugdozent zu arbeiten. Weiteren Feinschliff an seinem Instrument holte sich Matthias bei Dave Weckl, Horacio „El Negro“ Hernandez, Prof. José Cortijo, Hans Dekker (WDR BigBand). Aktuell ist er als Drummer in verschiedensten Bands und Projekten tätig - wie z.B. NDR-Bigband, Tini Thomsen‘s MaxSax, Smoking Wolf, Philipp Sauer Quartett, Guido Wilbers u.v.m.

Sound character: A fusion of darkness, energy, projection and brilliance. Very wide range, complex, musical mix. Responsive feel, extremely controllable. Woody, silvery, spanky ping over crunchy, thriving wash. Extremely versatile, flexible ride for wide ranging application in modern blended music styles. Mark I: Tends to be a bit quieter, darker and drier. This manifests itself in the overall sound character and in particular in the bell and ping sound.
