Biography
Jon was born in Virginia, USA in 1980. In 2003 he relocated to Paris, France. In 2004 he was offered enough work to become a full-time drum instructor. He's maintained that status ever since. In 2017 he became a nationwide registered Independent Professor of Music in France. He's the father of a little boy and a husband to a French woman. From 1998 to 2005 Jon was a drumline instructor in northern Virginia and a staff instructor at Ferrum University Band Front Camps in western Virginia. In 2001 he graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston. While there he studied privately with Ian Froman and Bob Gullotti. "If the seed of my passion is in the teachers of my youth, Ian and Bob are the two that taught me how to harvest it." Jon is the author of Forbidden Notation(2003-2019), Fundamental Lessons in Rhythm and Meter(2020), and An Archive of Ancient Rhythms of West Africa(2021). He's published over fifty pages of drum transcriptions for the French magazine La Batterie. "I've always respected notation. It's a window into something naturally invisible. It's also a wonderful tool when the instrument isn't accessible." He released a handful of diverse albums and a few singles especially for drummers. They'reavailable on all the major streaming platforms. "I'm not sure why or where my passion comes from. But I never seem to get enough and I'm always inspired to improve myself and my lessons. I love to joke but deep down it's a responsibility I take very seriously. I'm also very interested in the science behind music, sound, and rhythm." Jon is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Music Therapy from Paris Descartes. "As for my cymbals, over the years I've accumulated a very large Paiste collection catering to all the popular styles of music I teach and play. Their blendability amazes me every day. Even the older ones are of the highest quality out there. Simply said, Paiste to me is heaven in metal."
