Biography

Drummer Jim Hillman has fashioned a distinguished career over the years as a sideman, playing with Canadian jazz stars like Oliver Jones and Sonny Greenwich, legendary Brazilian composers such as Marcos Valle and Roberto Menescal, and R'n'B with artists such as American icon Ben E. King. He has also distinguished himself as a leader and lyricist : his group The Merlin Factor won the ’94 JUNO Award for “Best Contemporary Jazz Album”, and earned The Jazz Report magazine’s “Electric Jazz Group Of The Year” prize for three consecutive years. He remains currently active, playing drums with Montreal’s best jazz and R’n’B artists, teaching at Montreal’s Concordia University, and leading his own Brazilian vocal-jazz ensemble “The Teresina Quartet”.
