Biography

Jeff Mulrennan was born in Naples, Italy, the son of a world renown Entomologist. The piano was his first instrument and at the age of seven he began formal music lessons. Though he found the piano interesting, he was looking for something that would take him on a more exciting musical path. At the age of nine, he discovered his older brothers neglected set of drums in the garage, which he quickly made his instrument of choice. He spent his formative years in the Bay Area of Northern California. In those carefree days, he and his friends would ride the BART train into Oakland to hang out at the famous Leo's Music. Jeff would walk around the store, marveling at the stacks of drums and rows of cymbals, dreaming about being a musician. Jeff began to fuel his passion for drumming by listening to all the great rock music of the seventies. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Queen, Aerosmith and Deep Purple all became huge influences. The family relocated to the East Coast, and he began his formal drum study with Washington D.C. area drummer and percussionist, Jim McCall. He hit the road to Colorado after High School to begin to play music professionally. He reconnected with his best friend from his childhood days in California and they formed a band. They began touring clubs across the Western US, poised—or so they thought—for imminent rock and roll stardom. But as it does for so many bands, breaking through the clutter proved frustrating, and years of living on ramen noodles to make rent was beginning to take its toll. By the late 80’s they all went their separate ways and started new lives. He settled in Colorado continuing to record and perform with bands and as an independent drumming artist. Over the years he has performed, recorded, and toured with many great artists. Jeff has also been a prominent figure in the drum equipment industry for many years. He is known by a who’s who of legendary drumming stars as an incredible host and ambassador to the community and for producing unforgettable drum clinics. Ultimately Jeff made Los Angeles his home where he has established the recording studio, Orb Studios LA. He and his bandmates from the Colorado days reconnected in 2020 after thirty-six years apart and began writing music and recording again. The band, Mad Radio was formed and recorded, produced, and released an album in 2021 on Resurge Records/Warner Music Group.
