Biography
Jason Hirt is a Minnesota-based session and touring drummer. Jason’s musical journey started at the age of six, when he began studying under nationally-renown jazz drummer Gene Piccolo. Throughout his teenage years, Jason studied with Minneapolis-based drummer Ben Johnston. It was during this time in Jason’s studies that his interest in drumming grew, and it quickly became his life’s passion. Jason went on to attend McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota, studying percussion. While at McNally Smith, Jason studied under many of the Twin Cities’ best working drummers. Including Gordy Knudtson (Steve Miller Band), Dave Stanoch (Author of the 2009 Modern Drummer Reader’s Poll winning book “Mastering the Tables of Time”), Dave Schmalenberger, and Paul Stueber. Since the age of 14, Jason has been performing with various groups throughout the Minnesota and Mid-West music scene. His list of credits includes performing on gigs and recordings with Progressive Rock group Conduit, Post-Hardcore five piece The Following, and Pop-Rock outfit City of the Weak. Jason Hirt has also enjoyed international success as the drummer of Black Metal band Ghost Bath (Nuclear Blast Entertainment). Jason spent time touring extensively with the band in 2016. He also performed on Ghost Bath’s highly anticipated full-length release ‘Starmourner’. On March 19th, 2017, the song ‘Ambrosial’ from the album ‘Starmourner’ premiered on BBC Radio 1. This premiere marked Jason’s international radio performance debut. At the end of 2016, Jason Hirt partnered with songwriters Ryan Menghini, and Brandon Buttner as drummer of the Los Angeles-based indie rock group Hartwick Pines. Jason has worked on sessions with many world-class producers and engineers, including Craig Owens (Chiodos, D.R.U.G.S., Isles and Glaciers), Jordan DiSorbo (Before Their Eyes), Josh Schroeder (King 810, The Color Morale, For Today) and Brandon Buttner (Justin Timberlake, Leona Lewis, Usher). Jason Hirt proudly endorses Paiste Cymbals, and SJC Custom Drums.
