Biography
Born in Zürich, Switzerland Georg Hofmann leads a professional career as a drummer and percussionist for more than 30 years, playing and/or recording with such artists as Steve Gorn, Pierre Favre, Raul Tudon, Charles Gayle, Ernst Reijseger, Trevor Watts, Cyro Baptista, Robert Dick, Yang Jing, Christoph Baumann and Vinz Vonlanthen. Since 1984 he collaborates with american guitarist Mike Nord in different groups and multiarts projects such as CarrNordHofmann and CarrNordHofmannMaddox, Crossing Borders (with video by american artist Ann Kresge) and, since 2006, Noru Ka Soru Ka with japanese dancers Mao Arata and Makoto Matsushima and produced 5 CDs. As a composer he wrote and performed for theater, literary readings, fashion shows and multimedia (Stadttheater Konstanz, Ring Theater Zürich, Die Lange Nacht der Kurzen Geschichten Zürich, TMC Avantgarde and Rodo Guadarrama's multi-award-winning performance "3 catastrophies I happily survived“). Living in Mexico City from 2001-2003 Georg Hofmann was the art director of ArtLife Latinoamerica together with his wife Martha Reyes producing concerts with local and international artists. Hofmann and Martha Reyes organized Mexico's first international festival of improvised music "sin compas" in 2004. In 2012 he co-curated "3. Montag - one step beyond", platform for improvised dance and music at Tanzhaus, Zürich. Georg Hofmann toured in Europe, America and Asia and taught masterclasses at Columbia University, New York, Escuela Nacional de Musica, UNAM in Mexico City and at Willamette University, Salem/Oregon. Georg Hofmann is a member of SMPV (Swiss Association of Music Pedagogues) and taught drums and free improvisation at Konservatorium Winterthur, Switzerland for the last 15 years. Since 2019 and the independence of his kids, Georg lives with his wife in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, where he leads a busy schedule in the local Jazz- and Improscene and Mexico City (Remi Alvarez, Aaron Cruz, Armando Merid Martin, Oscar Teran, The Killer B3's, New Yorker Blaise Siwula (sax), Texan Brian Allen (tb) and Canadian pianist Diane Roblin) as well as with the bluesband Charro & The Moonhowlers and producing.
