Biography

Curtis Bearden is a self taught drummer who grew up listening to a variety of bands such as Kiss, Rush, Pat Travers, Steve Miller Band, Tom Scott, The LA Express and Mahavishnu Orchestra. His main influences growing up were Tommy Aldridge and Billy Cobham. While in high school, Curtis played in the Symphonic & Marching Band and Jazz ensemble. Curtis played the club scenes throughout the U.S.; eventually landing him the gig with a newly formed band in Minneapolis Minnesota called “Pretty Boy”. It was at that time Curtis hooked up with Steve Miller Band drummer Gordy Knudtson. Curtis began taking personal lessons from Gordy in between his tours. In 1987, the band Pretty Boy caught the ear of Jon Bon Jovi and began working with Jon and Ritchie Sambora. The name “Pretty Boy” was soon changed to “Mariah”. They landed a deal with Atlantic Records but it wasn’t long after that when Nirvana came on to the music scene and the grunge style music began dominating the music industry. This was the beginning of the end for the 80’s hair bands. Though Mariah split up in the early 90’s, Curtis continued on being a freelance drummer doing mostly studio work and some live shows. Now after 15 years, the 80’s style music is making a come back and Mariah has reunited. Curtis is the driving force once again in the band “Mariah”.
