Biography
Born in Recife-Brazil, Cássio Cunha started playing snare drum at Salesiano College Drum Corps in Recife. In 1986 he began his studies at the Pernambuco Conservatory of Music, where he stayed until 1991. There he studied with teachers José Gomes, Severino Revorêdo, Geraldo Leite, Maestro Duda, Maurício Chiappeta and Jediel Filho. Still during his studies, he began his professional career playing in instrumental music groups and accompanying several artists of the region. In 1992 he moved to Rio de Janeiro where he taught at the In Concert music school for more than ten years. In Rio he also started his research on Brazilian music, launching the books IPC (Coordinated Polyrhythmic Independence) and ARB (Brazilian Patterns book) – Independent. Currently accompanying the singer and composer Alceu Valença and O Grande Encontro 20 Anos formed by Elba Ramalho, Alceu Valença and Geraldo Azevedo. He is also was columnist for Modern Drummer Brasil magazine.
