Biography
André Gonzales was born in an artistic family, and started studying drums and symphonic percussion in 1982 at the São Caetano do Sul’s Arts Foundation with José Eduardo Lennert, Alfredo Lima and Carmo Bartoloni, studying afterwards at CLAM and with the great Duda Neves. At the age of fourteen he was already teaching and playing professionally, and composing, singing and playing other instruments such as bass, guitar, flute, guitar and piano as well. In almost four decades of music, Gonzales has recorded countless albums, tracks, ads and jingles, and performed with several musicians and artists from around the world, among them Andy Timmons (USA), Sydnei Carvalho, Roberto Menescal, Jane Duboc, Egberto Gismonti, Gilberto Gil, Celso Pixinga, O Terço, Ricky Furlani, Dalvan, Paulo Ricardo, Marina Elali, Claudia Leitte, Agnaldo Rayol, Hebe Camargo, Léo Maia, Iveline, The Evolution (Symphonic Beatles), Audiofílicos (Dave Matthews Band Tribute), Fireball (Deep Purple and Steve Morse Tribute), Rush Visions (Rush Tribute), Pink Floyd Experience (Pink Floyd Tribute), Hits Again, Roberto Justus, Junkie Box, Fernando Forni, Pornograffitti, Red, Devotos DNSA, Gwen Leathers (USA), Gabrielle Goodman (USA) and Nicky French (UK), among many others. André has been teaching since 1987, writing books and recording videos for children, beginners, intermediate and advanced, enlightening a significant number of amateur and professional drummers. Among these works are BEAT collection (9 books), books Bateria Para Crianças I & II (Drums For Children I & II) and the instructional book/DVD O Baterista Criativo (The Creative Drummer). He has also been writing columns and articles for specialized magazines and websites for many years, such as Modern Drummer Brasil, Ritmismo, Drumlab, O Baterista and Bateras BR. He teaches at his own institute IAG, plays with Funkacid, SuperOverDrive, and with his father, singer and guitarist Dave Maclean, as well as doing workshops, masterclasses, clinics and working as a sideman and freelancer. In June 3rd, 2020, Gonzales released his independent new single, Waiting, from his forthcoming solo album, Tabula Rasa.
