Biography

Alek Sekulovski has been playing, teaching, and recording drums for over 30 years. He holds a Masters's Degree in Jazz & pop drums. Studied with Ron Savage (Berklee College of Music) and Hristo Yotchov (SAM). He is one of the founding members of the Jazz Academy at the University of Goce Delcev Stip, Macedonia. He contributed 7 years of teaching as an Associate Professor of drums and percussion, where he mentored and helped many young generations of jazz students to develop in Macedonia. Currently based in Toronto Canada he works as a Professor of Drums and percussion at Metalworks Institute of Sound and Technology and also as a resident studio drummer at Big Bang Recording studios. Besides his live and studio work, he also keeps his teaching schedule busy doing online teaching and educative work helping drum students around the globe. He has recorded over 80 albums, played thousands of live shows, as well as Tv and Theatre performances in the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Scotland, England, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Holland, France, UAE among others. He appears on major music festivals like Berlin Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Skopje Jazz Festival, Sziget, Rio Loco, Barbican Art Festival, Rotterdam World Music festival, Roma World Music festival, BBC London 1 Radio show, Jazz Fm 91, and many others. Famous venues include Ronny Scott Jazz club, Nublu, Blue Note, Live on the Park, Moods, Bourbon street, Pizza Express, Jazz Bistro, Global, Le Belle Villoise, Quasimodo, BrotFabrik, Take Five, Bozar, Le Cargo, etc. Alek Sekulovski has collaborated with many great contemporary artists, like Greg Hopkins, Toni Kitanovski, the tuba jazz legend Bob Stewart, Vasil Hadzimanov, Gustavo Aguilar, New Birth Brass band, Hector Zazou, Frank London, Two Rooms Project, Vickie Van Dyke, Oscar Salas, Francesco Bearzatti, Teodosi Spassov, Kostas Theodorou, Davor & Voda, Zim Zum 4tet, Rob Tardik, The Freeman Brothers, DuffMusiq, Gyles, the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, Izzet Kizil, Project Zlust, Foltin, Ljubojna, Tanec, and the list goes on and on.
