Product Spotlight: 15" Paiste Hi-Hats

Replicated by many other cymbal manufacturers, (Paiste was the first company to design the wavy bottom hi-hat), the 15” 2002 Sound Edge Hi-Hats offer immense power and lively projection. They can be found on the drum kits of top international drummers Abe Laboriel Jr., Slayer’s Dave Lombardo or Franklin Vanderbilt (Lenny Kravitz). Listen to a few of John Bonham’s grooves on almost any Led Zeppelin song and you’ll hear that undeniable smooth, bright, and powerful washy sound the 2002 Sound Edge Hi-Hats are so well known for. The 15” 2002 Medium Hats have a bit more defined sound, responsive feel, complimented with a warm and sizzling wash.
The 15” 2002 Wild Hats have a dark and piercing stick attack but when they’re let loose, these new breed of 2002 hi-hats release a raw, wild and almost untamable open sound. They fit well with loud, guitar-oriented music styles. Thanks to their reflective finish, 2002 Wild Hats are also visually appealing on stage. Their aggressive nature is the 1st choice for Gas Lipstick (HIM), Russell Gilbrook (Uriah Heep), and Jason Thomopoulos (Slaves To Gravity).
For those who want to capture the vintage rock hi-hat sound from the late 60’s and early 70’s, 15” Giant Beat Hats offer a mellow and distinctive stick sound shared with a well defined yet soft chick. When opened up, they release a warm, light and slightly woody sound. Today they’re still being proudly used to capture that vintage rock sound with the help of Patrick Keeler (The Raconteurs), Jason Morris (Crash Kings), and Ira Elliot (Nada Surf).
Made of traditional bronze (B20), the 15” Twenty Hi-Hat provides a crisp yet beefy stick sound matched with a silvery open wash and fat, punctual chick. Jason McGerr, (Death Cab for Cutie), Jeff Campitelli (Joe Satriani), and Danilo Arroyo (Juan Fernando Velasco), are a few Paiste artists currently playing 15” Twenty Hats.
More and more Paiste artists declare that the 15” Alpha Rock Hats are the hidden gem of any 15” hi-hat available today. Here’s a short list of some of the Paiste artists that will tell you there is no other hi-hat better than the 15” Alpha Rock Hats: Nils Lang (Serum 114), Gordon Heckaman (Powerman 5000), Emmett Menke (Polar Bear Club), Kevin Murphy (Josh Gracin), Ken Schalk (Fuel). The 15” Alpha Rock Hats contain the right amount of a tight crisp stick sound to compliment multiple musical styles. When opening the hi-hat, a bright and cutting wave of aggressive energy is released. And when tapped with the foot, you hear a clear, full, and bright chick sound. A professional grade pair of 15” hi-hats at a heck of a price.
