WHO IS FREDDY SHEED?

Name: Freddy Sheed

Paiste Artist Since: 2012

Website (Personal):
Freddy Sheed – Official Website

Website (Band):
The Japanese House – Official Website

Website (Other Projects):
The 1975 – Official Website

Social Media:
Freddy Sheed – Official Twitter Account

Birthday: 07/20/94

Hometown: London, England

Playing Drums Since: 1997

First Paiste Cymbal: 20“ Signature 'Dark Energy' Light Dark Ride

Favorite Paiste Cymbal and Why: 15" Masters Dark Hi-Hats. They have a perfect papery to practical ratio - they sound stunning and delicate, acoustically, but still don’t get lost in the mix once they’ve gone through a desk and into a PA.

Heroes: Steve Jordan, Brian Blade, Jim Keltner, Steve Gadd, Jay Bellerose, Al Jackson, Jr. ...endless.

Hobbies: Photography, food.

Favorite Movie: It changes on regular basis, right now it’s 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'.

Favorite Food: same as above, right now I’m digging anything Mexican.

Top 3 Albums: Donny Hathaway “These Songs For You (Live)“, Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley, Michael Jackson “Off The Wall. “

Your Best Ever Show/Recording Session: A sold out Barclays Center in Brooklyn with The 1975 was pretty special, the guys also flew my girlfriend out from London to catch the gig as a thank you. Everyone played great and the crowd were amazing.

Favorite Paiste Artist Show I Attended: John Mayer at the Hammersmith Apollo, Steve Jordan delivering the tightest pocket in the land. I left totally inspired.

If I Wasn’t A Drummer, I’d Be A….: a chef.

Do You Prefer Touring or Recording? Why?: I prefer recording because I like variety. When on tour you end up delivering the same notes every day, you have to keep it interesting in other places. With recording, you have to adapt to the musical environment and play with precision and accuracy, a studio can be very unforgiving and I like that challenge.

Recommendation For A Beginner: Trust your ears- listen to as much music as possible and enjoy learning grooves aurally from your favorite songs instead of going onto You Tube and watching chops videos. That’s how you learn to play music.
