Biography


Tony Cupito is an American drummer from Orange County, California. He is the drummer for national act alternative rock band Beware of Darkness. Previously played with The Nervous Wreckords fronted by Brian Karscig(Louis XIV). The Nervous Wreckords were seen as the opening act for a couple shows with Brandon Flowers, Cee Lo Green and later set to sea playing on Weezer's five day cruise to Cozumel. He also played with los angeles based group The Shys in his early twenties.Tony is a drummer that loves playing all styles and is in the studio frequently recording genre's ranging from country, pop, rock, blues or folk indie music. He also enjoys mixing, mastering and producing music for smaller projects. Beware of Darkness has been spotted on bills such as the Leeds festival, Reading festival, opening for The Smashing Pumpkins all throughout Europe, Uproar Festival tour and also made there National television debut on the TBS late night show Conan O’ Brien may 15th 2013. Beware of Darkness released there debut record Orthodox may 7th 2013 via Bright Antenna Records / Ada. The bands first single “Howl” peaked #4 on the US active rock radio charts and #6 on the US hot mainstream rock charts. There debut record also peaked at #30 on billboards Top Heatseekers chart. The bands music can also be heard in films, tv shows and video games. Some to mention are Need For Speed 2, Saints Row 4, trailer for nbc show Ironsides, NBC tv show Parenthood, Red 2 and Nitro Circus.

Cupito was born in September of 1985 and raised in San Clemente California. In the fourth grade after writing a letter to the orchestra music teacher asking to play drums, he was turned down. Then found himself in a required curriculum class singing Aladdin’s “one jump ahead of the breadline”, well let’s just say that didn’t quite work out for him as well. He then played in "The Swing Kids" group at Paul Cacia's jazz program under direction of Scott Steward. At the age of eleven he soon found himself all throughout junior high and high school playing in rock bands, concert band, wind ensemble, pit orchestra, jazz band, marching band, drum line and honor band. His high school highlight was playing drums in the play West Side Story at San Clemente and Dana Hills High School. He was also hired by J Serra High School as drummer for the play Nunsense held in Laguna Beach CA. During his teenage years he also kept busy after hours playing gigs and parties in a jazz quartet. After high school, Tony attended the summer program at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and the PIT program at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California. At MI he received the “Most Outstanding Player of the Year” award (graduating class of 2004 and 2005). Tony is addicted to working hard at what he loves but also feels very fortunate to have grown up in an environment that with schools that offered great music programs. He credits his high school band director Andy Magana for giving him the musical foundation he needed to pursue his career. Cupito is forever thankful and cherishes the people whom have given him the freedom to enjoy music in life.
