A native of Garland Texas, Billy grew up around local opry houses and quickly found himself intrigued by the drums, and at the age of 5 asked his parents for drum lessons and by 12 he took over the job as the house band drummer for the Garland Opry every Saturday night. In high school Billy excelled in marching, concert, show and jazz bands winning numerous awards from the Texas Jazz Educators Association.

In 2002 Billy began touring with Jolie Holliday on the Nascar Circuit for Chevy Racing where he found himself playing for tens of thousands of people on the road every month. Then in 2009 he took a break from traveling and accepted the job as musical director and drummer for the house band at one of the biggest honky-tonks in Texas, Cowboys Dancehall in Arlington. In 2012 Billy's drumming won national acclaim as he beat out over 5,000 other drummers to make the Guitar Center Drum-Off Grand Finals. The national exposure led to his gig with the legendary country music star Neal McCoy and more recently recording with Shawn Mullins.

Over the past 18 years Billy Joe Freeman has become one of the most in-demand drummers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, playing over 275 shows a year for artists such as Kacey Musgraves, Jimi Tunnell, Marcelo Berestovoy, Chaz Marie, Mark David Manders, Anton Shaw, Bernard Wright, Gary Floyd, Jerry Audley, Jeff Plant, and Stefani Little.

As of April 2013 Billy packed his drums and moved to Nashville after successfully auditioning for Dustin Lynch. He is very excited to be joining Keith Urban and Little Big Town on the "Light The Fuse Tour" with Dustin this summer.
