Chris Tyrrell has never thought of himself as just a drummer; he approaches everything as a musician. Growing up with both his parents having their Masters in Music Education, he had a different focus from the start than most children picking up drums. He grew up surrounded by musicians in live and session formats, and was trained in theory, ear training, and sight-reading at an early age. His lessons and performances throughout his early years were saturated with rhythmic perseverance and focus that helped him sculpt his musicianship. By age 7, Chris had already begun leading worship every Sunday with his parents who were music directors at their church.

He continued taking lessons for the next 8 years, studying under multiple percussion and session players, receiving a firm foundation in rock, fusion, funk, and pop. He continued playing for larger churches and conferences throughout high school on drums but also led re-treats and conferences on guitar, all while continuing lessons and playing rock and pop with different musicians and bands in the Albany, New York area.

The insight provided him from his parents and mentors growing up gave Chris an understanding of the im-portance of interaction and communication in music and honed his attention to details in how the whole of the music moves and feels. That foundation developed an authority and confidence that he exudes when he plays that has set Chris apart and earned him the privilege of playing and touring with numerous artists and bands on multiple national tours, including:
