Biography
Rafael Dolinski started playing drums after watching his father (José Roberto Martins Macedo) playing drums and percussion with Novos Baianos in 1997. His father was a great drummer/percussionist in Brazil and has performed/recorded with Novos Baianos, Gal Costa, Pepeu Gomes, Moraes Moreira, Baby do Brasil, Bocato, Tutti Frutti, Santana, Jaco Pastorius, among many others.
Rafael taught himself to play the drums by listening to his favorite drummers and bands: Michael Jackson/The Jacksons, Little Richard, Queen, The Who, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Novos Baianos, Pepeu Gomes, Santana, Rush, Iron Maiden, Van Halen and The Tubes.
His father and the brazilian drummer Lauro Lellis helped Rafael to develop technique on the drums. They introduced him some new bands and musicians: Chick Corea, Steps Ahead, Weather Report, Casiopea, Vinnie Colaiuta, Gregg Bissonette, Simon Phillips, Dave Weckl, Terry Bozzio, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Buddy Rich and his dad's favorite drummer, Dennis Chambers. Another great influence on Rafael's playing is the brazilian drummer Jorginho Gomes.
Rafael has played/recorded with: Willy K, Luciano Nassyn, ULM Big Band, Infini, Alexandre Gonçalves and many freelance projects. He is currently touring Brazil with the Quebra-Cabeça band which recorded their first CD.
