Andy Blanco enjoys a diverse career performing in concert halls, theaters and studios in New York and around the world. Andy is currently the percussionist for the Broadway show NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT and was most recently on the road with the First National Tour of Oprah Winfrey Presents THE COLOR PURPLE.
On Broadway, Andy has performed with THE LION KING, TARZAN, FELA!, HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING, HAIR, LYSISTRATA JONES, and THE COLOR PURPLE.
As an orchestral musician, Mr. Blanco has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Detroit Symphony, the Albany Symphony, the Chattanooga Symphony, the Huntsville Symphony and with Sting at the Apollo Theater during his Symphonicity Tour.
As a chamber musician, Andy was a founding member of the Elektra Chamber Players and has collaborated with Argento Ensemble, Fireworks Ensemble and the percussionists of the New York Philharmonic.
Andy Blanco earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Percussion and a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where he attended on scholarship and received the Pablo Casals Award in 2004.
A devoted educator, Andy has served as the percussion coach of the Norwalk Youth Symphony, the Interschool Orchestras of New York, and has performed in various school programs created by the New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas. Andy is currently a member of the percussion faculty at the 92nd St. Y and maintains a private teaching studio in New York City.
In New York, Andy is a sought after studio musician for singers, songwriters, and composers. He can be heard on the first released recording of Thomas Pasatieri’s opera The Seagull, The Met Brass 'Waltzes, Songs & Festive Scenes', Broadway’s Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure 2007 and The Sometime Boys 'Any Day Now'. He has recorded for the PBS TV Special “Heavenly Voices” and the soundtrack for the film ‘Interior Design’ by Michel Gondry. Andy is an artist endorser for Paiste, Pearl Corporation, Adams Musical Instruments and Innovative Percussion.
