Biography

Montreal Canada’s Simon McKay is the drummer in the Canadian metal band The Agonist. Originally picking up guitar as a primary instrument at age 12, Simon realized at age 16 that drumming also came naturally to him. After joining several local bands and going on his first US tour at age 18, he found a permanent job in The Agonist in 2006. He is featured on "Lullabies for the Dormant Mind", recorded in 2009.

Simon's style can be described as fast and musical, somewhere in-between a traditional thrash and death metal drummer. His drumming influences include Adrian Erlandsson, Nicholas Barker, Dave Lombardo, Paul Bostaph, John Bonham, Gavin Harrison, and many more. He also writes and performs songs on guitar in the studio for The Agonist.

Simon is currently touring internationally with The Agonist but when he is home, Simon spends most of his time behind the drum set practicing. He is known to be passionate and very enthusiastic about music.
